Please - if you are sexually active and are not ready, at this time in your life, to become pregnant, use a reliable form of contraception. And take advantage of Free EC Day today by getting yourself a course of the stuff and stashing it in your medicine cabinet. No method of contraception (except abstinence) is 100% reliable, but in case of failure, EC is a far better option than an abortion a month or two later.
(With thanks to avtherav for the link.)
What are the halachic/moral/emotional issues relating to the use of EC? Am I right to assume that you do not see any significant objections to its use?
Short answer: There are issues, but all far less drastic than the issues surrounding an abortion (even an early medical/chemical abortion) a few weeks later. Personally, I do not see a significant moral or physiological difference between using EC and using hormonal birth control altogether...but it is preferable, both medically and from the standpoint of personal responsibility/preparedness, to use proactive contraception rather than retroactive.
Perhaps now I have the seed for a real post. Thank you.
